Blackheart Productions donate Thermometers to SLFA

4 December 2020

Amidst the Covid-19 crisis the island’s football fraternity has been taking steps to help deal with the situation that has brought a temporary halt to scheduled proceedings.

Towards this end, the Saint Lucia Football Association [SLFA] Inc. held a Press Conference on Wednesday. SLFA president Lyndon Cooper provided an overview of the Association’s activities which is scheduled to end this month.

A highlight of the press conference was the benevolence of the Blackheart Productions, with the presentation (See picture) of a quantity of infra-red thermometers to the SLFA. Blackheart Productions representative Shane Christopher commented that for more than a decade Blackheart has enjoyed a successful partnership with the SLFA and so found it fitting to be of some assistance to them in this present COVID – 19 pandemic.

Christopher asserted that this timely gesture would benefit the Leagues as he looks forward to the resumption of football matches on the island.

President Cooper acknowledged the gesture from Blackheart and indicated that the 19 thermometers will be distributed, one to each of the 19 league/affiliates. He was grateful for the donation and expressed optimism as he looked forward to a continuous partnership with them.

Both Blackheart Production and the SLFA urged everyone and by extension their affiliates to continue adhering to the COVID – 19 protocols so that the country could return to normalcy, resulting in football taking its rightful place in the scheme of things.

Due to the ongoing COVID – 19 pandemic and the restrictions imposed by the Government of Saint Lucia in relation to the staging of sporting activities, the SLFA have had to take several crucial decisions.

Subsequently, a number of events have been called off, including Youth Championships – Under 11, Under 13 and Under 17 Boys Club; 2020 Island Cup – Premiere League and Super League Championship.

In addition, a number of the Association’s activities had to be postponed until further notice and these include: District Championships – Girls Under 13, and Senior Women, National Teams Training, 2020 D’ Licence Coaching Course 1st – 5th December and Finance Seminar for Football Leagues 9th and 10th December.

Under the COVID – 19 Support Programme, President Cooper announced the completion of Phase I which saw Clubs, Leagues and Referees who had met the criteria, benefitting financially. According to a SLFA official, approximately EC $400,000 has been disbursed.
