178 new Covid Cases over the Weekend

St Lucia confirmed another 178 new Covid 19 cases over the weekend, 87 on Sunday and 91 on Saturday.

These cases came from samples tested between Thursday and Saturday.

Sunday’s tally brought the number of positive cases up 24.6% of all the samples processed on that date and the total number of cases diagnosed in- country to date to 11,231.

The Ministry of Health also reported one new COVID-19 death. The total number of COVID- 19 deaths in-country now stand at 140 and the total number of COVID-19 related deaths is 44.

COVID-19 death #140 is a 53 year old female from the Laborie district.

Confirmation was also received Sunday of the recovery of 72 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. This brought the number of active cases in-country to 2170. Currently, one active case is critical while 14 others are severely ill at the Respiratory Hospital.

To date, a total of 35,793 individuals have received the first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and 29,423 have received the second dose. A total of 9,270 individuals have received the first dose and 1,738 individuals have received the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Vaccinations resumed today at the Vigie Complex and the Soufriere Hospital from 9 a.m to 4 p.m.
